The new Apple Studio Display XDR and Apple Studio Display go official

Add DisplaySpecifications as a preferred source on GoogleApple has unveiled a new generation of Studio Displays designed to elevate both professional workflows and everyday computing, marking one of the company's most significant expansions of its display lineup in years.
The updated Apple Studio Display (2026) retains its 27‑inch 5K Retina panel with 600 nits of brightness but now includes a sharper 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View support, a studio‑quality three‑microphone array, and a six‑speaker system capable of delivering deeper bass and Spatial Audio. Apple has also added Thunderbolt 5, enabling faster data transfer, support for high‑speed accessories, and the ability to daisy‑chain up to four Studio Displays for nearly 60 million combined pixels. Two additional USB‑C ports allow for peripherals and device charging, while the included Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable provides up to 96W of power - enough to fast‑charge a 14‑inch MacBook Pro. Buyers can choose between standard or nano‑texture glass and select from tilt‑adjustable, tilt‑and‑height‑adjustable, or VESA‑compatible mounting options.
The new Apple Studio Display XDR replaces the Pro Display XDR and pushes Apple's professional display technology even further. Apple is positioning it not just as a replacement for the Pro Display XDR, but as a leap forward in what a professional monitor should be. Its 27‑inch 5K Retina XDR panel uses an advanced mini‑LED backlight with more than 2000 local dimming zones, delivering 1000 nits of sustained SDR brightness and up to 2000 nits of peak HDR brightness. The display supports both DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB color gamuts and a 120Hz refresh rate. Adaptive Sync dynamically adjusts frame rates for smoother video playback and more responsive performance in graphics‑intensive applications. Apple has also added new DICOM presets for medical imaging workflows. Like the standard Studio Display, the XDR model includes the upgraded camera and audio system, along with Thunderbolt 5 connectivity to streamline professional setups.
There's a sense that Apple is quietly correcting past missteps. The original Studio Display's camera quality was widely criticized; now Apple is emphasizing improved image processing. The Pro Display XDR lacked a built‑in camera and speakers; the new XDR includes the same upgraded system as the standard model. And Thunderbolt 5 - with its ability to daisy‑chain up to four Studio Displays — feels like Apple acknowledging that pro workflows are more complex than a single‑monitor setup.
Pre‑orders for both models open March 4, with availability beginning March 11. Of course, Apple’s pricing remains unapologetically premium. The Studio Display starts at $1599, or $1499 for education customers, while the Studio Display XDR starts at $3299, or $3199 for education. Both displays are offered with standard or nano‑texture glass.
