LG supplies the panels for the Apple Pro Display XDR

LG will supply the panels for Apple's premium Pro Display XDR desktop monitor. This information comes "sources close to the matter" who cite product descriptions from Apple's website saying that the LCD panels were applied with Oxide TFT and IPS technologies - both being proprietary LG techs. "There are very few display makers that can realize 6K picture resolution with Oxide technology," an LG Display executive said. The company already mass produces 8th generation Oxide TFT LCD panels for Apple from P9 and G8 lines at its Paju plant in the Gyeonggi Province.
The Pro Display XDR is the first all-Apple monitor after the manufacturer seized making its own monitors in 2016. It has been announced on June 3rd and is priced at USD 4,999. Almost one-third of this price is formed by the price of LG's panel which costs USD 1,500. The 32-inch 6K (6016 x 3384) LCD panel has 576 mini LED backlights comprising the 2D backlight system to achieve a higher contrast ratio and higher brightness than conventionally backlit LCD panels. The contrast ratio achieved with the HDR mode on is 1000000:1. The typical brightness is 500 cd/m2 while the peak brightness is 1600 cd/m2.
Actually, Apple has been selling rebranded monitors from LG's UltraFine line for quite some time. LG will also supply the panels for NVIDIA's G-Sync Monitor, which is created together with Asus and Acer. This monitor will have a 27-inch 4K display panel with the same number of mini LEDs as the Apple monitor - 576.Quelle
