Sharp unveils a rollable 30-inch 4K OLED TV

11 Noviembre 2019, 07:25:06

Sharp unveils a rollable 30-inch 4K OLED TVSharp has announced that it has developed a rollable 30-inch 4K OLED display in collaboration with the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK). The unit on display is a prototype that uses a flexible 30-inch film substrate that's the world's largest colour filterless flexible 4K OLED display. There is no colour filter because it uses a vapour deposition technology which allows the formation of elements that emit light in each colour of the RGB spectrum. The thickness of the panel is about 0.5 mm which allows it to be rolled compactly with a radius of about 2 cm. NHK has contributed with its original signal processing and panel drive technology to improve screen brightness uniformity and image clarity. This rollable TV from Sharp will be showcased at the Inter BEE 2019 to be held at Makuhari Messe (Mihama-ku, Chiba) from November 13 to November 15.

At the CES 2018 in Las Vegas, LG announced its first rollable OLED TV. It already has a model name and will enter production. The LG OLED65R9PUA has a 64.5-inch diagonal size and a 4K resolution. It rolls out from a compact stand in a similar manner to the prototype shown by Sharp. However, Sharp's solution uses an RGB OLED with no colour filter.
