JDI will showcase a micro-LED display at FinTech 2019 in JapanJapan Display Inc. (JDI) has announced that it has developed a prototype micro-LED display, which will be showcased during the 29th FinTech exhibition in Japan. The event will be held in Makuhari Messe between December 4 and December 6.

In their essence, micro-LED panels do not need a backlight, polarizer and color filter which are used as a rule in LCD panels. JDI's micro-LED display panel is intended for the next-generation displays. It offers high brightness and wide viewing angles and is based on JDI'a LTPS backplane technology. The micro-LED units used on the exhibited panel are sourced from glo. glo is a startup established in the heart of Silicon Valley USA in 2010 with full in-house development capability building micro-LED panels on both LTPS and Si backplanes.

The micro-LED panel that will be on display has a 1.6-inch diagonal size, a resolution of 300 x 300 and will provide viewing angles that are wider than 178 degrees. The typical brightness is 3,000 nits.
