TrendForce expects a major reshuffle after Samsung Display's exit from the LCD market

TrendForce expects a major reshuffle after Samsung Display's exit from the LCD marketAccording to TrendForce, Samsung Display's exit from the LCD market will cause a "major reshuffle". While 2019 was marked by an oversupply of display panels resulting in a significant drop in panel prices, this year is marked by the lowered demand in most end products due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Samsung Display's plans to exit the LCD market by the end of the year brings further uncertainty.

Currently, the company has a 9% share in the IPS monitor panel market and a 35% share in the VA monitor panel market, with more than 70% share in the curved panel market. It is obvious that it will be premature to leave the VA market. If this happens, the AUO and CSOT will become the sole remaining suppliers in the curved VA panel market. Ultimately, this will benefit HCK which plans to produce curved VA panels at its Changsha plant next year. At the same time, stopping the IPS business won't cause any dramatic changes. This market has an excessive supply currently and the 9% that belong to Samsung will simply dissolve between the two market leaders - BOE and LG Display and the smaller manufacturers that adjoin them - CEC, Innolux, AUO.Source
