LG Display's 3rd Gen OLED TV panels receive global recognition for eye comfort

UL Solutions, a global leader in applied safety science, tested LG Display’s third-generation OLED TV panel for blue light wavelengths that can cause eye fatigue and sleep disorders. LG Display’s advanced OLED panel earned a score of 36%, the lowest level among all existing TV panels, and received a Platinum rating and the UL Mark for low blue light. For comparison, blue light wavelengths emitted by conventional LCD TVs reach levels ranging from 70 to 80%.
Unlike LCD TVs that require a backlight unit, LG Display’s OLED TV panels feature a cutting-edge self-emissive structure that allows each pixel to emit light individually, which helps to significantly reduce blue light wavelengths.
This year, UL Solutions has implemented more stringent criteria for measuring blue light emissions in an effort to give consumers more reliable information, with program ratings now classified as Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The top rating, Platinum, is awarded to display products with blue light wavelength emissions that sit below 40% of the total blue light wavelength emissions.
In addition, LG Display’s third-generation OLED TV panel also offers minimal reflections from nearby objects, earning it the ‘Reflection-Free’ certification from Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide. Reflections are attributed to deteriorating color accuracy and overall image quality, which are known to cause eye fatigue. From Intertek’s testing process on the ratio of external light reflected on the screen, the third-generation OLED TV panel achieved an industry-leading reflection ratio of less than 1%.
Prior to receiving these certifications, LG Display’s OLED TV panels were already recognized for their optimization for eye comfort by becoming the world’s first TV display to receive the Eyesafe® certification developed jointly by the U.S. eye safety organization Eyesafe Inc. and TÜV Rheinland for their remarkably low blue light emissions and flicker-free status.
LG Display’s latest META Technology incorporates ‘Micro Lens Array (MLA)’ to maximize light emission from the OLED panel and a brightness-enhancing algorithm ‘META Booster,’ resulting in the industry’s highest peak brightness of 2,100 nits and a 22% enhancement in energy efficiency when compared to existing OLED TVs under the same brightness level.
