LG will present a flexible 48-inch OLED TV at CES 2021

LG will present a flexible 48-inch OLED TV at CES 2021LG plans on presenting a flexible 48-inch OLED TV at CES 2021. This display can be bent for gaming and flattened for watching TV. Sound is produced by vibrations on the display instead of using traditional speakers.

The company stated in a press release that this "thin paper" display can be bent to a radius of curvature of 1,000 millimeters and still provide "an even viewing distance from the middle to the edge of the screen." LG Display stated that its "response time is 0.1 millisecond (ms), the refresh rate is 120Hz, and the refresh rate range is from 40Hz to 120Hz."

This new display will also use LG Display's CSO (cinematic sound OLED) technology to produce sound. The CSO screen was first shown at CES in 2017, using an exciter installed behind the display to vibrate the OLED screen itself to generate sound waves, and the display essentially becomes a speaker. The vibrator in the new 48-inch flexible film-quality OLED display is only 0.6 mm thick, compared to 9 mm when the CSO has been first introduced four years ago.

"LG Display's 48-inch flexible CSO display is optimized for gaming because it maximizes the use of advanced technology and creates another level of immersive experience. In other words, it provides gamers with the best gaming environment." Dr. Chang-ho Oh, Executive Vice President and Head of TV Business Unit of LG Display, said at the press conference.
