2021 Hisense U8G series - three different versions for the USA, Europe, AustraliaWe continue to explore the 2021 Hisense TV lineup for various markets around the world in order to bring some sense and structure as one and the same series has different specs and features for different markets. The subject matter of this article is the Hisense U8G series.

In the USA, this series is also known as Hisense U88G. It comprises two models - Hisense 65U8G and Hisense 55U8G. Each has a 4K VA panel with 120Hz native refresh rate, Direct LED backlight with FALD, 1500 nits of peak brightness, up to 360 local dimming zones for the 65" and up to 132 local dimming zones for the 55" model. The USA models run on Android 10 for TV. They support Dolby Vision, HLG, and HDR10+. The audio department features two 10W speakers with Dolby Atmos support. IMAX Enhanced certification, Quantum Dot Color, Hisense's ULED technology complement the most noteworthy features.

In Europe, this series is also known as Hisense U8GQ. In a similar fashion to the USA one, it comprise two models - Hisense 65U8GQ and Hisense 55U8GQ. However, the design is different, featuring a totally different stand. Moreover, the Europe-bound models have 4K IPS panels with 500 nits typical and 1000 nits peak brightness. The contrast ratio is 1200:1 and the native refresh rate is 120Hz. The 65" model has 120 local dimming zones, while the 55" one has 90 local dimming zones. The European models are based on the Hi-View Engine (4K) with a NovaTek NT72671D system-on-chip at its heart. Another major difference from the USA models is that the European ones run on VIDAA U5.0. The audio department is also different with two 10W tweeters, two 10W midrange speakers, and a 20W subwoofer. The EU models support Dolby Vision, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Atmos. IMAX Enhanced and TUV Rheinland certifications are applied.

Finally, in Australia, the Hisense U8G series does not have an alias. The series is expanded to four models - Hisense 85U8G, Hisense 75U8G, Hisense 65U8G, Hisense 55U8G. They have a similar design to the USA models but run on VIDAA U5.0 like the European models using the Hi-View Engine (4K) with a NovaTek NT72671D chipset. Hisense Australia does not elaborate on the type of TV panels and brightness but for sure they use a Direc LED backlight with FALD, Hisense ULED, Quantum Dot Color technology, and are Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR10+, IMAX Enhanced certified, to name a few. The audio system is a bit unclear with the two bigger models featuring two 15W midrange speakers and 4 tweeters, while the two smaller models have two 10W midrange speakers and 2 tweeters.

In terms of connectivity, all three variants seem to have identical options the only differences being the cable/antenna/satellite inputs. The rest comprises four HDMI 2.0 ports with ALLM, VRR, eARC support. This is called partial HDMI 2.1 input. The European website mentions a VRR range of 48-60Hz. There are optical audio out and headphone jack, a LAN port, two USB ports (2.0 and 3.0), AV composite in. Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0 are also supported.

Here's a comparison between the 65" models from all three variants of the Hisense U8G series to get a clearer picture of the differences in detail.
