TCL completes purchase of LG Display's China operations

TCL completes purchase of LG Display's China operationsTCL Technology's display unit, China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), has completed the acquisition of LG Display's Chinese businesses, taking full ownership of the two subsidiaries that operated LG's Guangzhou panel and module factories.

LG Display previously held an 80% stake in LGD CA and 100% of LGD GZ. In September 2024, the two companies reached an agreement that TCL CSOT will acquire in full LGD CA, the Gen 8.5 LCD panel factory in Guangzhou, and LGD GZ, a module-assembly plant, for a total price of 11.088 billion yuan. LG Display confirmed back in April that the acquisition was already a fact. Following Chinese regulations, TCL CSOT confirmed this Monday that the deal is completed, saying that the sum was paid in full to LG Display.

TCL and LG Display originally agreed on the terms in September 2024. LG Display announced the sale and the transfer of the Guangzhou factory earlier in 2025, and TCL renamed the Guangzhou panel plant T11 after the transfer. TCL reported that the factories' results were already consolidated into its second-quarter financials prior to this final confirmation.

The sale is part of LG Display's strategic shift away from large-scale LCD manufacturing toward OLED and next-generation technologies. The transfer strengthens TCL's global position in LCD production capacity, adding to its existing lines and expanding scale and industrial synergy for long-term profitability. With the Guangzhou assets integrated, TCL now manages multiple generation panel lines across its network, including 6G, 8.5G, 8.6G, and 10.5G capacity, increasing Chinese manufacturers' share of global LCD TV-panel production. Industry reporting expects T11 to ramp up output as TCL integrates processes and customer relationships previously served by LG Display.
