Samsung will stop its Gen. 8.5 LCD production line, LG follows suitBusiness Korea reports that Samsung will reduce the production of large LCD panels, more specifically - Gen. 8.5 ones with a size of 2200 x 2500 mm made at the Asan Campus in South Chungcheong Province. Samsung is considering to stop the L8-1 line that produces 90,000 LCD panels per month, and the L8-2-1 line. The information comes from ïndustry sources". The main reason behind this is the stable and significant drop in LCD prices due to the aggressive market strategies of Chinese LCD manufacturers. Samsung is planning on establishing production lines for its QLED panels but has not made the final decision yet.

LG Display is also considering shutting down the P8-2 line in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, which is also an 8.5th-generation LCD panel line. According to the market researcher IHS Markit, the average selling price of 43-inch LCD panels in July stood at US$77, down 27% from US$106 in January 2018. As a result, South Korean companies will seriously reduce or will entirely stop LCD production lines due to severe losses.Source
