Sony launches its flagship series of smart TVs - the ZD9Sony has launched its flagship series of smart TVs - the ZD9, a.k.a. Z9D in the USA. It includes three models with a 65-, 75-, and 100-inch size, all featuring 4K UHD resolution and advanced features such as the Backlight Master Drive, which intelligently enhances contrast for HDR content. This technology has been introduced as a prototype back in January during the CES 2016 in Las Vegas. It dims or boosts each LED individually using the so called Discrete Control, but the number of separately controlled lights is not disclosed. It is aided by a Calibrated Beam LED tech, which focuses the LED light on a limited area that increases precision and control. Secondly, ZD9 TV sets are equipped with Sony's top 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme chipset. It provides a performance increase by 40% compared to the 4K HDR Processor X1. it also employs three new technologies: object-based HDR remaster, dual database processing , and Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR. The first tech means an SDR source image is analyzed and upscaled to an HDR-like one. The second is used for improved noise reduction and detail enhancement. Of course, X-tended Dynamic Range PRO and a wider colour gamut are supported due to the Triluminos Display. Sony ZD9 TVs have a champagne gold edge with a black trimming on the inside. The 65- and 75-inch models have table stands, while the 100-inch has a floor stand in addition. All three models run Android TV OS with integrated Google Cast, PlayStore and Sony's new UI overlay. They support active 3D and have Netflix and Amazon Video pre-installed and allow you to connect external players. The 65-, 75- and 100-inch models will go on sale in Europe in August-September, priced at €5000, €7000, and €70000 (£4000, £7000, £60000), respectively. In the US the 65- and 75-inch models will bear the Z9D moniker and will go on sale this summer, priced at $6999 and $9999, while for the 100-inch TV there is release date and price info.Source
