According to Liao Wei-lun, president of AUO's video products business group, AU Optronics (AUO) will start shipping its 8K TV panels in the first half of this year, Digitimes
reports. The 65-inch and higher panels are important to AUO as their sales are expected to increase by 40% and 50% on yearly basis. Large 8K TVs will enter the market more seriously later this year and it is expected that their market penetration will reach 10% in two years. 4K panels are already becoming a standard for 50-inch and larger TVs and their market penetration has risen to 40% up from 30% last year. AUO will also start shipping panels for rear-view car mirrors in the first half of 2018 and other panels for automobiles.Source
Sharp plans on releasing the AQUOS 8K series of TVs and displays in China in October, in Japan in December, in Taiwan in February 2018, and in Europe in March 2018.
