Samsung demonstrates 8K satellite broadcasting on its 82" 8K QLED Q950 TVSamsung and KT Skylife successfully demonstrated the transmission and reception of 8K satellite broadcasting using the 82-inch 2019 Samsung QLED 8K (Q950) TV at Mokdong Broadcasting Center in Seoul. The test was conducted by KT Skylife receiving and decoding the 8K video transmitted by the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute using an antenna, and transmitting it to Samsung QLED TV through the latest HDMI standard in real-time.

The demonstration was based on the H.265 standard, a high-efficiency image compression method, at the Ka band (20 ~ 30GHz) of Chollian satellite. Satellite transmission also uses DVB-S2x, which has significantly improved transmission efficiency compared to the existing one. This makes it possible to send and receive 8K satellite broadcasting at 100Mbps.

"In 2019, 8K QLED TVs will support the latest HDMI standard, enabling continuous reception and playback of 8K content," said Lee Hyo-jang, vice president of video display division at Samsung Electronics. "We will continue to strengthen our 8K market leadership."

KT Skylife said, "This test broadcast is meaningful because it confirms the technical stability of high-capacity super-high-definition satellite broadcasting," said KT Skylife. "We will continue to cooperate with domestic and international experts to upgrade satellite UHD technology, We will lead the market. "Source
