The recognition marks a significant shift in how display performance is evaluated, moving beyond traditional metrics like color gamut or peak brightness toward a more rigorous, real‑world assessment of how faithfully a screen reproduces both color and luminance.
Intertek's testing compared OLED and LCD technologies using a wide range of test patterns designed to expose variations in color and brightness. According to the results, LG Display's self‑emissive OLED panels achieved 100% color accuracy, 100% brightness accuracy, and zero color crosstalk. These measurements confirm that the panels maintain consistent color regardless of pattern size, deliver uniform brightness across different content types, and avoid pixel‑to‑pixel interference - a key factor in preserving fine detail and tonal precision.
LCD panels, which rely on backlights that illuminate zones rather than individual pixels, showed inherent structural limitations during the evaluation. In HDR scenes such as star fields or fireworks, highlighted areas lost brightness due to backlight constraints, and some premium LCD models using RGB LED backlights exhibited color distortion depending on the surrounding image.
