Samsung speeds up the launch of commercially available 8K TVs and self-emitting QLED TVsKorean media ETNews reports that Samsung plans to accelerate its next-generation TV launch. Its schedule includes the announcement of a super-large 8K TV lineup of 100-inch or larger TVs and the release of self-luminous QLED TVs in 2020. Modified the strategy to lead the super large and premium TV market. Originally, Samsung planned to release 8K TV products at CES 2019 but it advanced the launch for the IFA 2018 which was held in Berlin, during which the company showed a total of four models, ranging from 65 to 85 inches. Next year, the 8K TV lineup will be significantly expanded. Han Jong-hee, president of Samsung Electronics' video display business, said, "We need 8K to go to large size. We will see an enormous (8K) line-up at CES next year." Han also said, "Although the 8K TV market is still small, we believe that other manufacturers will come to the 8K market if Samsung Electronics offers a full lineup." According to market researcher IHS, the 8K TV market is expected to grow significantly from 60 000 units this year to 2.6 million units in 2020 and 5.4 million units in 2022. In fact, the number of companies exhibiting 8K TVs in IFA this year also increased significantly. Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, as well as TCL, Sharp, Toshiba, Haier, Grundy and Vestel.

Samsung Electronics plans to release its own self-emitting QLED TV soon. It aims to launch in 2020, about two years ahead of its original goal. At the IFA press conference, Han said, "TCL plans to release self-luminous QLEDs after 2020, but Samsung Electronics is one step ahead of QLED technology." This can be interpreted as Samsung Electronics can launch self-emitting QLED before TCL. Recently, Samsung Display has attracted a professor from the Seoul National University, Lee Chang-hee, a veteran of quantum dot (QD) materials, as a vice president in order to speed up the development of self-luminous QLED. He is well known as being the QD and OLED evangelist and has joined the company earlier this month. Samsung Electronics said earlier that its domestic micro LED will be ahead of schedule and will be released early next year. As such, it is said that Samsung Electronics has a strong will to advance the next-generation TV roadmap. We believe that a drastic change is necessary to lead the premium market. A Samsung official said, "The time to commercialize the 8K TV was next year, but one president was willing to commercialize it in the second half of this year." Another company official said at IFA, "Our aim is to significantly speed up the roadmap rather than originally planned."Source
