The main difference is the display panel - the older model uses a 26.5-inch QHD WOLED screen, while the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDPR is built around a 26.5-inch QHD Tandem QD-OLED panel. Moreover, the new model offers a faster refresh rate of 500Hz vs the 480Hz peak of the older model.
Color performance remains relatively similar. Both native 10-bit panels cover 99% of the DCI-P3 color space, but the new model - the Asus PG27AQDPR - delivers a higher brightness with DisplayHDR True Black 500 and better color stability at high brightness and reduced panel aging. The older model has a lower SDR brightness and a DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification.
Moreover, the PG27AQDPR debuts OLED Anti‑Flicker 2.0, a more advanced algorithm that boosts pixel brightness dynamically to maintain uniform luminance even when frame rates fluctuate. This makes the new panel feel more consistent in mixed‑content scenarios, especially when switching between menus, gameplay, and streaming overlays.
Asus has also expanded OLED protection technologies to its OLED Care Pro suite for the new model. The PG27AQDP included pixel cleaning, screen movement, logo dimming, and basic burn‑in protections. The PG27AQDPR adds boundary detection for black bars, taskbar dimming, global dimming, and a new Target Mode that dims everything except the active window - an especially useful feature for creators and streamers. The standout addition is the Neo Proximity Sensor, which detects when the user steps away and instantly switches the screen to black to reduce static‑image exposure.
Design refinements also set the PG27AQDPR apart. Both models share the ROG aesthetic, but the new version adopts a semi‑transparent rear shell that exposes structural elements and gives the monitor a more premium, anniversary‑grade look. ASUS has also reworked the internal heatsink and airflow system, improving thermal efficiency and contributing to the three‑year warranty that covers burn‑in - a reassurance that wasn't as prominently emphasized with the PG27AQDP.
Connectivity remains familiar, comprising two HDMI 2.1 ports with FRL, a DisplayPort 1.4 input with DSC, a headphone jack, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-B port. The ergonomic options are also the same: height adjustment of up to 110 mm, a bi-directional pivot, +/-30 degrees of swivel, and -5 to 20 degrees of tilt.
