JOLED will establish a 5.5 generation inkjet printing OLEDs mass production line

3 Юли 2018, 16:39:42

JOLED will establish a 5.5 generation inkjet printing OLEDs mass production lineJOLED is a private equity joint venture fund (INCJ) has been established in 2015 by Sony, Japan Display Incorporated (JDI), and Panasonic. The goal of the organization is the development and production of inkjet printing type OLEDs. JOLED has just announced that it will establish a 5.5 generation inkjet printing mass production line with a monthly capacity of 20 000 sheets. This will happen on the Nomi factory site in Ishikawa formerly owned by JDI and later on acquired by the Japan Innovation Network. At the Technology Development Center located in Ishikawa JOLED already operates an inkjet printing pilot line of 4.5 generation (730 x 920 mm). Here, 21.6-inch 4K OLED panels were produced and shipped in small quantities for use in medical monitor products. The 5.5 generation inkjet printing production line, which will be newly prepared, will produce 10-32 inch OLED panels. It also mass-produces products for automotive displays as well as special high-end markets.

In order to mass-produce by 2020, the company will utilize the existing 4.5-generation pilot line equipment as much as possible and introduce additional facilities. There are plans to apply the inkjet printing technology to ultra-large 10.5G OLEDs as well. In order for this to happen, JOLED needs to attract fresh investments. Sony and Panasonic have already boosted their stake in Sumitomo Chemical, Denso, and Screen Holdings. JOLED has also suggested that Samsung SDI and LG Display in Korea proposed various investments.

An industry observer said, "It is unclear whether or not enough investment funds for mass production facilities have been secured yet. It is not hybrids that deposit blue OLEDs, but full inkjet printing still has problems with lifetime and efficiency. We have to observe it."Източник
