UBI Research: Mini-LED TVs will dominate over OLED TVs in the premium TV market after five years

According to the latest report from UBI Research, when it concerns the premium segment Mini-LED TVs will dominate over OLED TVs in a five year's time. Becoming a major trend in premium TV development, for 2021 Mini-LED TVs will be 35.8% from all premium TVs against 64.2% for OLED ones. In 2025, UBI Research expects those numbers to turn in favor of Mini-LED TVs which will account for 57.2% of all premium TVs against 42.8% for the OLED ones.
Mini-LED TVs add a quantum dot and a Mini-LED layer to the backlight unit for improving brightness, HDR, and color reproducibility. Moreover, the large number of mini LEDs allows for impressive improvement in contrast and reduction in the blooming effect. The more mini LEDs, the better. According to UBI Research, Mini-LED TVs to be sold this year will use 1000-3000 local dimming zones. In order to realize the same image quality as OLED, the local dimming zones must be more than 100,000 but this will make a Mini-LED TV to cost as much as an OLED one. Thus, by reducing the number of local dimming zones, the companies will achieve an improvement in image quality over regular LCD TVs while maintaining more affordable prices compared to OLED TVs.Източник
